0629 HOURS · BREAKFAST
Breakfast is underway at Stonebridge County Detention Center when a medical call in Pod 3C changes the rhythm of Unit 3. Deputy Price needs backup. Mercer and Hayes help get Medical through the door while Unit 1 keeps its morning moving.
When the immediate emergency clears, there are still trays to serve, a post to cover and a report to write. Behind the Doors follows the deputies through the call and the quieter minutes afterward, with concern, fatigue and the everyday humor of coworkers getting on with the shift.
0545 HOURS · DAY WATCH
The Corrections Watch is Grant Shepherd’s fictional workplace comic set at Stonebridge County Detention Center. Follow the people inside a modern county jail through complete shifts: turnover, count, movement, staffing gaps, paperwork, inmate contact, fatigue, humor, and the consequences that carry into the next watch.
At 0545 hours, day watch arrives. A missing pod phone, two callouts, and a shift that still has to move put the day’s first decisions in front of four supervisors.
Sergeant Reed and Corporal Torres take Unit 1. Sergeant Hayes and Corporal Mercer take Unit 3. As count clears and morning movement begins, their different approaches become part of the work.
TWO UNITS · FOUR LEADERS
UNIT 1
Reed brings clear standards, decisive direction, and ownership of the work. He mentors Torres while learning when an explanation needs another question.
Torres is practical and decisive. She keeps the work moving and learns to look beyond the first explanation before closing an issue.
UNIT 3
Hayes is observant and patient. He asks how a decision was reached, develops his staff, and expects coaching to produce accountable improvement.
Mercer looks for ways to develop independent judgment. Under Hayes’s guidance, he learns to combine that instinct with confidence in his own decisions.
