The shift may be over while the follow-up is still unfinished. The FLS End-of-Shift Leadership Debrief helps a correctional supervisor review what happened, identify what remains open, and decide what to do differently next shift.
Close the operational and people issues
This two-page fillable PDF begins with the shift's priorities, outcomes, and open items. It then asks you to rate five leadership habits, including clear expectations, visibility, timely action, dependable follow-through, and decisions you can explain.
- Record the best and hardest leadership moments.
- Identify employee recognition, coaching, or follow-up.
- Review important decisions and the reasoning behind them.
- Make the next-shift handoff clear about ownership, deadlines, and risk.
- Choose one behavior to repeat or change.
Turn reflection into a next action
Use specific examples. Instead of writing that communication needs work, identify which direction was unclear and how you will give it next time. If a decision worked, record why so you can recognize the same conditions sooner.
Give open items an owner. A debrief is useful when it produces a handoff or a check-back someone can act on, rather than another list of concerns.
Build a repeatable shift routine
Use Supervisor Shift Notes during the shift, then review the notes at closeout. For a longer view of your leadership habits, use the Supervisor Self-Assessment.
The debrief is included in the Conversations and Documentation Pack and Complete Field Tool Collection.
